Last night Nov. 26th 2013 the LOVE leaders and MAP students celebrated Thanksgiving with friends and supporters of LOVE we are so appreciative for the support and love everyone has shown our youth. We wish everyone a safe and very happy Thanksgiving.
We are sad to say good-bye to 5 Pointz, a long-time graffiti favorite art space of LOVE youth. We have been visiting 5 Pointz for years, as it provides both a glimpse into NY's history of street art and graffiti and a great canvas for new photographers in MAP.
On Thursday november 14th, a group of 15 new MAP youth visited 5 Pointz to shoot photos for their ongoing photo essay, The Meaning. Little did they know, they would be documenting history by shooting photos of the last murals painted on 5 Pointz before it was 'whitewashed'.
Leave Out Violence (LOVE) was created to reduce and help eliminate violence in the lives of youth and our communities by initiating a movement of youth spokespeople who communicate a message of non-violence. LOVE’s Goal: to create an anti-violence movement of youth starting now and for generations to come.
LOVE is a non-profit after school program in NYC that serves at risk youth 12-18 years old, who are victims, survivors, witnesses and/or perpetrators of bullying, drug abuse, cutting, domestic abuse and many other forms of violence as defined by our youth.
LOVE teaches a message of non-violence through our writing program which includes; journalism, prose and poetry and through photography which includes the disciplines of photojournalism, art photography and videography.
LOVE gives youth a voice to take into their communities, their schools, their homes and onto the streets proving that non-violence is the most effective choice.
